01Overview

Piano V3 is built around a physical modeling engine that simulates the mechanics and acoustics of a piano in real time, so it needs no sample library. It offers 12 piano models, from American and German grands to upright, glass-framed and metal-framed designs. You can play it inside a DAW or standalone with a MIDI keyboard, and adjust hammer action, string age, resonance, stretch tuning and microphone position to shape the sound.

Sound Range and Piano Models

Piano V3 covers a broad tonal range across its 12 models. The American Grand and German Grand are the grand options, while Pop Grand is described as an immediate, crystal-clear sound for cutting through a mix. Among the uprights, Classical Upright, Jazz Upright, Pop Upright, Piano-Bar Upright and Tack Upright each take a different approach.

The set also includes less conventional instruments. Plucked Grand uses plucks in place of hammers, Glass Grand has a bold, edgy high end, and Metal Grand is aimed at modern cinematic and ambient sounds. Arturia presents the collection as usable across many styles, from classical to pop and hip hop.

Mechanics, Tone Controls and Workflow

The main window provides four macro controls for quick sound changes, along with a Reverb control that moves from a dry room to a convolution-style space. Deeper settings sit in the Model panel, where you can adjust hammer action, string age, unison detuning, stretch tuning and dynamic range.

Acoustic options include lid position and soundboard, sympathetic and Duplex resonance. Mechanical noises for pedals, keys and hammers can be added separately. A velocity curve editor lets you match the response to your keyboard, and MTS-ESP and ODDSOUND microtuning are supported.
