01Overview

Augmented WOODWINDS blends recorded woodwind performances with synthesis in a single instrument. Its sample library covers Contra Bassoon, Bassoon, Bass Clarinet, Clarinet, Oboe, English Horn and Flute, with close and far microphone options. Each preset has two layers, and each layer holds two customizable sound sources. The developer describes the result as a hybrid palette that can move from acoustic wind tones to abstract digital textures.

Sampled Woodwinds and Synthesis Engines

The sample library includes 56 articulations recorded across the woodwind family, with some material processed through FX hardware. A dynamic sampler adds further textures on top of the core instruments.

Four synthesis engines extend the palette beyond acoustic sound. A virtual analog engine uses TAE technology, a granular engine produces warp, glitch and stretch sounds, a harmonic engine is based on additive synthesis, and a wavetable engine handles more abrasive digital timbres. Arturia says the engines can be combined within a layer to build custom hybrid sounds.

Morphing, Macros and Modulation

A Morph control moves between Layers A and B and can also affect up to eight custom destinations. Seven additional macros cover Time, Color, Motion, FX A, FX B, Reverb and Delay, giving quick access to broad changes in a sound.

Modulation sources include 2 LFOs, 2 Function Generators, 2 Random Generators and 4 keyboard modulation sources, plus dedicated Vibrato and Tremolo. Each layer has 2 FX slots with 14 effects, including ParamEQ and Bitcrusher, and dedicated Delay and Reverb sends offer five spatial and time-based algorithms. A built-in 16-step arpeggiator and MPE compatibility add performance options.
