01Overview

Solina V is Arturia's software recreation of the Solina string machine, built from the original Eminent-made Solina MK1. The developer modeled the violin, viola, cello, horn and trumpet voices and the ENSEMBLE effect, which is the signature of the hardware. Beyond the original feature set, the plugin adds a Vox Humana sound, 1978 Bob Moog polysynth resonators, a polyphonic mode, a 24dB per octave bass filter and an arpeggiator. It is a fit for producers who want string washes and phaser-tinged pads in a single instrument.

String Sounds and Character

Arturia built Solina V around the original Solina MK1 and its ensemble sound. The developer says the violin, viola, cello, horn and trumpet voices were modeled to keep the richness and warmth of the source. The ENSEMBLE effect is modeled as well, and it is the element that gives the Solina its wide, chorused string tone.

The plugin uses the company's TAE True Analog Emulation technology for its oscillators and filters. Arturia describes this as a way to reproduce the analog oscillator and filter behavior that defines each classic instrument.

Controls, Modes and Effects

Solina V keeps all of the original Solina parameters and adds the Vox Humana and resonator section from the 1978 Bob Moog polysynth. You can run the instrument in the classic paraphonic mode or switch to a polyphonic mode. The Bass Section includes a 24dB per octave resonant filter and an arpeggiator.

An LFO handles vibrato, tremolo and filter modulation. The effects chain includes a 3-mode stereo chorus, a stereo dual phaser, an analog delay, a digital sync delay and a convolution reverb with 24 modeled reverbs. The plugin includes 150 presets.
