01Overview

Matrix 12 V recreates the Oberheim Matrix-12, which Arturia describes as the first programmable analog synthesizer to combine preset voice paths with modular flexibility. Arturia uses its TAE technology to model the original oscillators, filters and modulation routing. The plugin adds a new effects chain, expands the modulation routings from 20 to 40, and supports MIDI control of all parameters, so producers can automate it in a DAW.

Sound Character and Filter Options

The core of Matrix 12 V is its filter section. The single filter offers 15 modes: four low pass, three high pass, two band pass, notch, phase shift and four additional combo modes. Arturia says these modes cover everything from thin, airy tones to brash, bold sounds.

The two oscillators provide triangle, sawtooth and variable-width pulse waves with PWM. Oscillator 2 also works as a white noise generator, and either oscillator 1 or the filter can be frequency modulated. The synth has 12 voices of polyphony and is multitimbral, matching the original instrument.

Modulation Matrix and Workflow

Matrix 12 V has a modulation matrix with 27 sources and 47 destinations. Sources include five envelopes, five LFOs, four ramp generators, three track generators, velocity, pressure and keyboard follow. Arturia describes the routing options as nearly endless.

Two insert effect slots offer six studio-grade effects, and a preset browser supports tag-based search, favorites, comments and playlists. The interface is resizable for high-resolution and Retina screens.
