01Overview

Eventide's SplitEQ processes incoming audio through its Structural Split engine, which separates the signal into Transient and Tonal components before they reach the EQ. Each of the eight bands can shape the two streams independently, and continuous L/R and Mid/Side panning applies to each component. The developer positions it for enhancing, repairing, rebalancing and widening sources, and it ships with a library of over 150 presets.

How the Transient and Tonal split works in EQ

Structural Split analyzes the incoming audio and sends transient material such as noise, pops, plosives, sibilance and attacks to one stream. Sustained notes, harmonics, tone and ambience go to the other.

This lets you apply a filter to only the transient or only the tonal part of a sound. The developer gives examples such as de-essing by EQing only the transient, or reducing snare ring by filtering the tonal mids.

The spectrum analyzer shows the two streams separately in real time, and you can solo the transients, a single band, or the transients of one band.

Controls, filters and stereo panning

Each of the eight bands offers Peak, Notch, Bandpass, High Shelf, Low Shelf, Tilt Shelf, High Pass and Low Pass filter types, with slopes from 6 to 96 dB/octave.

Transient and Tonal output levels can be adjusted separately, and the EQ curves can be scaled globally together or independently. Continuous L/R and Mid/Side panning for each component adds stereo control across the bands.

A/B buttons let you compare two presets or settings, and Undo/Redo is included. The resizable interface offers zoom options.
