Space Delay: Tape Echo Plugin by IK Multimedia

IK Multimedia says Space Delay was built from a fully restored original RE-201 and uses the same mix of dynamic convolution and physical modeling found in its Tape Machine Collection. The developer describes the goal as recreating the unit's sound down to fine detail, including the spring reverb.

The plugin keeps the three playback heads and the spring reverb of the original design, so the character of the echo is built from those elements rather than from a generic delay algorithm.

Each of the three playback heads and the spring reverb can be panned separately, which allows wide, stereo echo patterns. High-pass and low-pass input filters shape the signal before it reaches the tape stage, so you can control how the echo sits in the mix.

The ducking feature lowers the echo while the source plays, which helps the delay stay out of the way of busy material. Unit noise and tape age controls add grit and vintage character when you want a more worn sound.
