01Overview

Rev SPRING-636 focuses on one effect: the spring reverb. Arturia bases its core unit on the Grampian 636, a reverb that has been used on many dub, reggae and ska records. The plugin combines eight spring tank models with pre-delay, a multimode pre-filter and a germanium-style pre-amp, so producers can shape the bounce and decay of the reverb or push the input into distortion. Arturia says its TAE and Phi modeling technologies handle the circuitry and the physical behavior of the spring.

Spring Tank Models and Reverb Sound

Rev SPRING-636 includes eight spring tanks. Arturia notes that each spring reverb has its own tonal character, and the eight models cover a range of brightness and bounce. Reverb Length lets you make the tail long or tight and snappy.

The Mix control sets the dry and wet balance and can be moved during playback, which suits dub-style throws and send-style tails. Pre-delay sets how soon the reverb begins after the input, and the pre-filter lets you choose which part of the signal reaches the spring.

Pre-Amp, Gain Staging and Post-EQ

The Vintage Pre-Amp offers two preamp types with their own sonic color. The germanium pre warms the signal at moderate settings and becomes heavily distorted when driven hard. An input-output gain link switch helps keep levels consistent while you adjust the drive.

After the reverb, a 3-band parametric EQ lets you adjust the tone of the wet signal inside the plugin, without adding another effect. The window is resizable, and integrated tutorials are included.
