01Overview

Spring Reverb is an effects plugin from Softube that models a spring reverb, the type of reverb built into many classic guitar amplifiers. Its controls shape how the springs sound and feel, from smooth and dense to bright and springy. Beyond the core reverb, it adds tube-style Bass and Treble controls and a fully automatable Shake control that makes the springs bounce and slam into each other. It runs as a send or an insert and is light on CPU.

Spring Character, Tension and Shake

The Springs control sets how many of the three spring sets are in use. Setting it to one gives a more pronounced springy sound, while three gives a smoother result.

Tension tunes all three springs together. Lower settings give a slow, smooth sound, and higher settings give a quick, harsh one. Together with the Springs control, it is the main tool for changing the overall character of the reverb.

The Shake slider reproduces the boom of a physical spring being jolted, without any need to strike hardware. It is fully automatable, so the effect can be applied at specific moments in a mix.

Beyond Guitars: Vocals, Drums and Keys

Spring reverb is strongly associated with guitar amps, but the developer points out that it suits many other sources. It can add personality to vocals, snare drums, percussion and electric organ.

The Bass and Treble controls sit in the reverb section and use the same tube simulation technology as Softube's Amp Room products, applied to the wet signal. This lets you shape the tone of the reverb tail on its own.

Because it works as both a send and an insert effect, you can use it on a single track or as a shared reverb across several sources.
