01Overview

Cassette Toy Piano for Logic takes a raw children's toy piano and captures it on tape. The developer recorded the instrument on two different cassette decks, one with a more neutral sound and one with a more lo-fi, degraded character. The goal was to keep the uneven, sometimes eerie tone of a toy piano while adding variations that expand its sonic range. The collection is aimed at producers who want organic, imperfect keys for their productions.

Sound Character and Sample Content

The library contains five instruments, the first being the raw toy piano recorded on cassette. The other four add variations of that sound. Samples were captured in three dynamic layers, so playing softer or harder changes the tone.

Each note was denoised with a high-quality algorithm to prevent noise from stacking when several notes sound together. Some noise is intentionally left in the samples to avoid denoising artifacts. A separate noise knob lets you add cassette noise back in, adjust its level independently and apply filtering, so a five-note chord carries one noise layer rather than five stacked on top of each other.

In total the library holds 1112 uncompressed 24-bit WAV samples, about 1.71 GB, including two two-minute noise samples.

Logic Version and Workflow

The Logic version is the one to use in Logic Pro. It ships with 50 basic presets, covering normal playback and reverse playback at 100, 75, 50 and 25 percent for each deck. These give you a starting point for both straight and reversed toy piano textures.

A full version of Logic Pro X is required. The developer notes that the product was not tested in Logic Pro 9.
