01Overview

Cassette Piano.02 Kontakt focuses on imperfection. Its samples come from an older upright piano recorded in a ballet training room, and the developer says the result is organic, with little flaws throughout. Four processing decks give the sound different levels of pitch wobble, noise and stereo or mono image. The Kontakt version adds a redesigned interface with expanded modulation, custom impulse reverbs and an octave down switch, making it a tool for producers working with vintage and lo-fi textures.

Sound Character and Recording Decks

The core of the instrument is a new set of piano samples, recorded in both stereo and mono with microphones placed at the back of the piano. THEPHONOLOOP describes the sound as organic and full of small imperfections.

Four decks process the samples differently. Deck A Stereo is the cleanest, with very low pitch instability. Deck A Mono offers the same quality in mono. Deck B Mono has a loose drive belt that adds strong pitch instability and sounds especially good when transposed down. Deck C Mono is the noisiest, with a medium amount of pitch instability. Deck D Mono is similar to Deck A but with more pitch and overall sound instability.

Modulation, Effects and Controls in Kontakt

The Kontakt version has a redesigned interface that stays simple while offering more editing options. The modulation section includes two independent LFOs with five shapes and four destinations each, along with amplitude, filter and pitch envelopes. The filter and pitch envelopes have invert switches, and the pitch envelope includes an attack curve knob.

Effects include impulse reverb with custom spring, hall and corridor impulses. Reverb and delay can be placed before or after the insert effects. A sample start knob, controllable from the interface or the mod wheel, shapes the initial transient. An octave down switch and a two-band Instrument Tone equaliser sit at the bottom of the interface.
