Sound and Recording Approach
The instrument is built on 2,372 samples totaling about 6.76 GB of uncompressed 24-bit WAV files. Each note in every dynamic layer was recorded four times, giving you real round-robin variation rather than a single static sample per key.
Each deck contributed its own set of samples, so the four cassette decks add distinct tonal colors to the same vibraphone source. Four noise samples from each deck are included as well.
The samples were denoised with a high-quality algorithm to prevent noise from stacking when several notes sound together. Some residual noise was left in the recordings to avoid denoising artifacts. A noise control lets you add tape noise back in, and because it is separate from the notes, you can set its level independently and apply filtering to it. When you play a five-voice chord, you hear one layer of noise rather than five stacked on top of each other.
