Cassette Keys.02 is a successor to Cassette Keys.01, designed to sound different and bigger rather than replace its predecessor. The two instruments in the set are both inspired by classic 1980s FM keys, then expanded with other synthesis techniques and a small amount of sampling for transient sounds. The developer says the two products complement each other well.
Each of the two instruments contains five dynamic layers, recorded with three different cassette decks. That approach gives the keys a tape-based color that sits between a clean synth and a sampled instrument.
The sampling is used mainly for transient sounds, adding attack detail on top of the synthesized tones. THEPHONOLOOP positions the set for producers who like vintage sounds and want an extra tool for their production toolbox.
The plugin ships with 30 basic presets. Each deck includes a normal setting along with reverse versions at 100%, 75%, 50% and 25%, so the same sound can be used in forward and reversed forms.
The reverse options are useful for risers, swells and transitional moments in a arrangement, while the normal presets work as direct keys in chord and melody parts.

Cassette Keys.02 requires the full version of Logic Pro X to run. It has not been tested in Logic Pro 9.
