01Overview

ADAPTIVERB is designed around depth and harmonic richness rather than simulating a realistic room. Zynaptiq describes its engine as reflectionless, using a ray-tracing reverb core with adaptive similarity filtering. The Harmonic Contour Filter can remove reverb components that do not match the input, a captured harmonic fingerprint, or a set of notes chosen on an on-screen keyboard. The plugin ships with more than 400 presets, and all key parameters respond to MIDI control.

Best for

  • Harmonic reverb on synths
  • Vocal and speech ambience
  • Drone and pad creation

Sound and Character of the Reverb

The core of ADAPTIVERB is its Bionic Sustain Resynthesis, which rebuilds the tail from the input and removes noisy components, so the reverb is meant to stay clear and harmonic rather than grainy. The Ray Tracing and Allpass based engine is built to create dense, diffuse tails.

The Harmonic Contour Filter keeps the tail in tune with the source, which is useful when long reverb tails would otherwise clash with chord changes. The RICHNESS parameter adds octave, fifth or unison harmonics to the reverb, and the SIMPLIFY function recreates the input's harmonic content using a small number of oscillators.

Workflow, Controls and Sound Design Uses

The Input FREEZE function creates drones, pads and infinite reverb-style sounds. HCF HOLD mode produces cross-filtering effects, and HCF Keyboard modes conform the effect to a specific key through filtering and pitch quantization.

A Pre-Processing section includes harmonic synthesis based AIR. The presets cover bread-and-butter reverbs, instrument- and voice-colored reverbs, adaptively filtered delays, and pads that play without any input signal.

Questions, answered

What formats and operating systems does ADAPTIVERB Educational support?

It is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats for Windows and macOS, and is a 64-bit plugin.

What do I need to use ADAPTIVERB Educational?

You need a compatible 64-bit host that supports VST 2.4, VST 3, AU or AAX, and an iLok account or iLok 2/3-based activation. An internet connection is required for software activation, and the older first-generation iLok is not supported.

Does ADAPTIVERB use a lot of CPU?

Zynaptiq notes that the plugins use a lot of CPU because of their complex processing. The developer recommends a playback buffer size of at least 512 samples, ideally 1024, and suggests using the free trial to check whether your system has enough resources.
