01Overview

UNVEIL by Zynaptiq is built for fixing audio that reverb has already baked in. Zynaptiq describes it as a de-mixing based tool that separates reverb components from a mixed signal, so you can reduce them, increase them, or change their character. The developer says it works on mono sources and on any channel count, without changing signal dynamics. It is also aimed at moving key elements of a recording into focus, or pushing them back, by adjusting perceptually less important parts of the sound.

Reverb removal and reverb creation

UNVEIL is designed to reduce reverb in recordings where it is unwanted. Zynaptiq says the plugin uses a model of the human auditory system to identify which parts of a signal are reverb, then separates those components for processing with its MAP technology. Reducing reverb is handled with a single slider.

The same process works in reverse. Zynaptiq notes that UNVEIL can increase reverb, which can turn a close-miked drum kit into a roomier sound or move a source further back in the sound stage. Additional parameters allow you to shape reverb characteristics.

Focusing mixes and removing mud

Beyond reverb, UNVEIL processes any signal components the developer considers to be of little perceptual significance. This includes what many engineers call "mud". Reducing these components can bring the main detail of a mix or recording forward. The inverse function can add grit and a less up-front character.

Zynaptiq states that the interface is simplified by design, with a single-slider workflow, though the process can be adjusted across a wide range.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What formats does UNVEIL support?

UNVEIL is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats. It runs on Windows and macOS and is 64-bit.

What do I need to run UNVEIL?

UNVEIL requires a 64-bit host that supports VST 2.4, VST 3, AU or AAX, processing audio as 32-bit float. An iLok account or iLok 2/3-based activation is required, and an internet connection is needed for software activation. Zynaptiq recommends a playback buffer of at least 512, ideally 1024 samples.

Does UNVEIL use a lot of CPU?

Zynaptiq states that UNVEIL uses a significant amount of CPU because of its processing. The developer recommends testing it with the free trial to check whether your system has enough resources.

Can UNVEIL process mono audio?

Yes. Zynaptiq says UNVEIL works with mono sources as well as any channel count, including surround formats your DAW supports.
