01Overview

WORMHOLE brings together five processing modules: the spectral WARP section, the pitch and frequency SHIFT section, a dual random-modulated hall REVERB, a DELAY and the dry/wet FX BLEND morphing section. The signal path is flexible, so the same tool can produce subtle widening and shimmer or heavily transformed sounds. Zynaptiq positions it for sci-fi sound design, creature and robot voices, ambient pads and mixing tasks such as widening and chorusing.

Sound Character and Core Processing

The SHIFT module pairs pitch shifting with frequency shifting and offers SMOOTH and TIGHT modes plus two DETUNE modes. The pitch range is listed at plus or minus 4 octaves, and the frequency shift range at plus or minus 4000 Hz, with 96 dB per octave carrier and sideband attenuation. Zynaptiq states the processing is aliasing free.

The WARP module handles spectral inversion and warping. Combined with the dry/wet morphing control, it lets you push a sound far from its source while keeping it intelligible, or move gradually from a clean signal to a heavily processed one.

Workflow and Typical Applications

WORMHOLE is built for fast creation of sci-fi sounds, creature voices and transmission effects, and the morph control can scale back strong processing when needed. Ambient users can layer the two random-modulated hall reverbs with the pitch module for glassy octave tails.

Mixing uses include widening with the L/R detuning modes and a delay that the developer describes as a center-balanced widening delay. Zynaptiq notes that WORMHOLE has a factory preset library and a weighted randomization feature, and that all controls support MIDI Learn.

The developer notes that Zynaptiq plugins use a lot of CPU. A playback buffer of 512 samples, or ideally 1024, is recommended, and the free trial is suggested for checking your system.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What formats does WORMHOLE support?

WORMHOLE is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats. It runs on Windows and macOS and processes audio as 64-bit.

What do I need to use WORMHOLE?

WORMHOLE needs a compatible host, such as an AU, VST 2.4, VST 3 or AAX host. An iLok account or iLok 2/3-based activation is required, and an internet connection is needed for software activation. The first-generation iLok is not supported.

Does WORMHOLE have a free trial?

Yes, a free trial is available. Zynaptiq recommends using it to check whether your system has enough resources, because the plugins use a lot of CPU.
