01Overview

UNFILTER is built to linearize the frequency response of a recording. It analyzes the audio, estimates the filtering it has picked up and creates a correction that undoes it, so a problematic recording can often be cleaned up with one main control. The plugin can also apply a measured filter response to another signal or export that response as an impulse response file, which makes it useful for matching recordings to each other. Its free-form, graphic and adaptive EQ modes and a 96dB/octave shelving high-pass filter extend it into everyday corrective equalization.

Removing Resonances and Comb Filtering

UNFILTER detects frequency response anomalies that are not part of the original signal. Zynaptiq says these include resonances, equalization, roll-offs and the effects of comb filtering in musical, location, dialogue and surveillance recordings.

The correction is applied in real time. Because the rest of the signal is left largely untouched, the plugin can be used on recordings that would otherwise be hard to use, and on clean material where a subtle polish is wanted.

Matching Sounds and Building Filter Libraries

The measured filter response can be applied to other signals so they share the same acoustic character. The response can also be exported to or imported from a linear- or minimum-phase impulse response file in WAV format.

Saved responses can be reused across sessions, which allows a library of captured filter characters to be built up over time.

EQ and High-Pass Tools

Beyond restoration, UNFILTER includes an adaptive program equalizer that keeps adjusting while audio plays, a free-form EQ with several curve interpolation modes, and a streamlined 7-band graphic EQ. A 96dB/octave shelving high-pass filter handles low-frequency rumble.
