01Overview

Spring models the character of the spring reverb heard in guitar amplifiers, the sound behind surf, garage and rockabilly recordings. Beyond faithful recreations, it exposes controls such as spring count, tank size and damping frequency, so you can push the sound well past what a real spring tank can do. Eventide provides a set of artist presets by Matt Lange, Nick Hook and Nu-Trix to start from. The plugin is available in 64-bit VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats.

Spring Reverb Tone and Damping Controls

Spring lets you change the number of springs and select between two tank sizes, which affects the overall resonance of the reverb. Separate damping controls for the low and high end let you shape how the tail sounds, and the High Damping frequency has a Resonance control that adds metallic ring.

The Ribbon controller can move several knobs at once, so you can morph smoothly between two settings in real time. Programmable Hotswitch jumps instantly to an alternate sound with a single press, which is useful for switching between a clean and a heavily colored setting during a performance or a mix pass.

Tremolo, Modulation and Tempo Sync

A tube-amp-style tremolo can be routed before or after the reverb, changing how the effect interacts with the spring. You can set the depth and rate, and the rate can be synced to your project tempo as a note value. Tempo Sync also applies to the reverb decay.

Raising the Modulation Level creates chorus-like movement in the reverb. Eventide describes Spring as useful for synths, drums and vocals, as well as guitar, which makes it a flexible choice for a mix bus or a send.
