01Overview

UFO Tone is built around a steel tongue drum that Soundiron recorded at St. Paul's Church in San Francisco. The library captures eight tongues with a close stereo pair and a second stereo pair placed 15 feet away, giving you both a dry, present sound and an open, spacious far sound. Two master NKI instrument banks in open Kontakt format provide the core playable instruments, with 2,201 stereo WAV files installed at 24 bit / 48 kHz.

Sound Character and Recording Approach

The instrument is built from mallet articulations recorded in two microphone positions. Soundiron says steel tongue drums have a smooth fundamental tone surrounded by complex harmonics and a long, mellow sustain, and UFO Tone is designed to capture that character.

You can solo, combine or layer the different articulations, tongues and mic positions across the keyboard. Blending the close and far positions lets you move between a focused attack and a wider, more distant sound.

Kontakt Controls, Modulation and FX

The Kontakt interface offers automation-ready controls for swell, attack, release, offset, vibrato, filter, coarse and fine pitch, articulation switching, and cross-fading and layering.

An adaptable LFO section lets you choose the shape, modulation target, speed, intensity, tempo sync and fade-in time. A customizable arpeggiator adds control over direction, timing, swing, randomization and duration, and a key and scale lock keeps notes within common scales. A modular FX rack with 10 slots and convolution reverb rounds out the processing, with 20 custom sound-designed FX and ambient presets included.
