01Overview

Mercury Symphonic Boyschoir is a choral sample library from Soundiron that focuses on a children's ensemble. The developer sampled a chorus of 25 boys ages 8 to 13, along with two soloists, and recorded them in a large hall. The library covers a wide set of vocal articulations, from short syllables and sustained marcatos to tempo-synced Latin polysustains and true legato vowels. It runs inside Kontakt and is aimed at producers who need a youthful, choral sound for orchestral, cinematic or ambient material.

Sound and Vocal Articulations

The library combines 42 staccato syllables and 42 sustaining marcato words, most with round-robin variation and pp to fff dynamic layering. Eighteen Latin polysustains offer tempo synchronization and legato, and six core vowels (Ah, Oh, Oo, Eh, Ee and Mm) are available as dynamic true legato layers.

Additional articulations include whispered polysustains, atonal droning and spoken polysustains, a classic ensemble whistle legato, and unique fff poly-staccatos. These options let you move from rhythmic syllable parts to long, evolving choral pads within one instrument.

Workflow, Mixing and Controls

Two room positions, close and far, are created from a blend of 12 large diaphragm Neumann microphones. The developer says the setup was designed for easier surround mixing and mix customization.

The Word Master system provides a graphical interface for choosing marcato words and staccato syllables on the fly, with multi-layer selection, blending and key switching. The Phrase Builder can store up to 16 user sequences that you cycle through or switch between with keyswitches. The interface is fully automatable, and integrated DSP effects and custom convolution impulses are included.
