Tiny Thumb Pianos: Plucked Kalimba Library for Kontakt

The core of the library is a set of duo and solo plucks. Soundiron captured each plucked note with 10 round-robins per velocity layer and an average of 8 velocity layers per note, which gives the playing some variation from hit to hit. The sample set is recorded at 24 bit / 48 kHz as uncompressed PCM WAV files, with 1,805 stereo WAV files totaling 1.35 GB installed.

The library also includes percussive hits, taps, slides and glisses, plus other effects sampled to add realism to the performances. Soundiron describes the instrument as having a gentle, melodic percussive sound with marimba-like warmth and tonal body.

The Kontakt interface offers multi-layer controls for swell, attack, release, offset, vibrato, filter, coarse and fine pitch, articulation switching, cross-fading and layering. An LFO system lets you choose the shape, modulation target, speed, intensity, tempo sync and fade-in time.

A set of 12 lowpass, highpass and FX filters can be assigned to modulation sources such as velocity, mod wheel, expression, aftertouch, key position and step-sequencer table control. The arpeggiator provides a velocity table and control over direction, timing, swing, randomization and duration. A key and scale lock constrains notes to common scales for melodic writing. A full FX rack with convolution reverb, including custom rooms, halls, chambers and FX environments, is included.
