01Overview

The Ruler focuses on the sounds a ruler makes when it is braced over an edge and set vibrating. Soundiron recorded 30 notes on a 6-inch ruler and 38 notes on a 12-inch ruler, along with taps, rattles and drops, and added recordings from 25-foot and 10-foot tape measures for a more modern take on the same idea. The result is a library that mixes tonal, pitched material with percussive and effect-style sounds.

Sound Sources and Sample Content

The library is built from recordings of two rulers and two tape measures. The 6-inch and 12-inch rulers provide the pitched notes, while the tape measures add percussive articulations and sound effects. Soundiron recorded the material at 24 bit / 48 kHz as uncompressed PCM WAV files.

The instrument is delivered as one master NKI bank in open Kontakt format. Beyond the raw recordings, the package includes 20 ambience patches created by manipulating the source content, which turn the same sounds into pads and tonal atmospheres.

Kontakt Controls and Effects Rack

The Kontakt interface offers multi-layer controls, including LFO, filter, glide and an arpeggiator. The LFO has selectable shape, modulation target, speed, intensity, tempo-syncing and fade-in time. You can choose from 12 lowpass, high-pass and FX filters and assign modulation sources such as velocity, mod wheel, expression and after-touch.

An FX rack with 10 slots holds 18 DSP modules, which can be ordered as you like. The reverb uses convolution impulse responses for custom rooms, halls, chambers and FX environments. The package also includes 20 custom sound-designed FX and ambient presets.
