01Overview

TAL-Dub-X is a delay effect built around a saturation stage and a low-pass filter with a resonance control. TAL describes it as a remake of its earlier freeware TAL-Dub, extended with extra features and 64-bit support on macOS and AAX. The developer notes that it does not emulate a specific hardware unit. Its character comes from its own saturation and filtering rather than from a clean digital delay, and the feedback and filter settings make it suited to long, evolving repeats.

Sound and Character of the Delay

TAL says TAL-Dub-X is not meant to sound like a clean digital delay. The Drive knob controls a saturation stage that colors each repeat, and a high-quality resonance filter shapes the tone as the echoes build. A high pass filter is also included for thinning out the low end.

With delay times up to 2 seconds and a Feedback control with POST filter routing, the plugin can produce long, sustained repeats. The developer points to this as the reason it works for endless delay effects.

Workflow, Controls and Automation

TAL-Dub-X syncs to the host tempo, and a TAP button lets you set the delay time by tapping. A PING PONG mode bounces repeats between channels, and a stereo triangle LFO can modulate both delay time and the resonance filter.

MIDI LEARN makes it quick to assign controls for automation, and MIDI Mapping is supported. MTS and MPE are also supported. The GUI is resizable, and an accurate meter shows levels. Useful presets are included to start from.
