01Overview

Dubstation 2 is an effects plugin from Audio Damage built around a digital model of bucket-brigade delay circuits. The developer describes it as an update to its original dub delay, adding dual-channel timing, LFO and saturation controls. Delay times run from 4 to 2000 milliseconds, and the frequency response changes with the delay time, a trait the developer ties to analog bucket-brigade hardware. It is available as VST3, VST2, AU and AAX.

Sound Character and Core Controls

The core of Dubstation 2 is a model of bucket-brigade delay circuits, which Audio Damage describes as a faithful digital recreation of vintage hardware. Two delay time ranges are available, and the frequency response shifts as the delay time changes.

Low-cut and high-cut filters sit in the delay path with user-set cutoff frequencies. Analog-style saturation can be dialed from subtle to heavy distortion. Feedback runs from almost none up to full feedback, and a mix control blends the processed and dry signals.

Modulation, Loop Mode and Reverse

A low-frequency oscillator can modulate delay time, changing both the spacing of the repeats and their apparent pitch. This covers subtle chorusing and doubling as well as pitch sweeps.

Loop Mode plays the audio in the delay line endlessly without alteration, while filter and saturation still apply to the output. The Reverse switch reverses the contents of the delay memory and the direction in which it records.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What formats does Dubstation 2 support?

Dubstation 2 is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and is 64-bit only.

Does Dubstation 2 run on 32-bit systems?

No. The developer states that Dubstation 2 is 64-bit compatible only and will not function on 32-bit systems.

What operating systems are required?

Mac requires macOS 10.13 High Sierra or newer, with M1 Apple Silicon supported. Windows requires Windows 8.1 or newer, and Linux requires Ubuntu 18 or newer.

Can I use Dubstation 2 to make dub-style loops?

Yes. Loop mode plays the audio in the delay line endlessly, and the filter and saturation controls still shape the output in that mode.
