01Overview

Rob Papen's RP-Distort 2 Upgrade is written for existing owners of RP-Distort 2. It builds on a distortion effect with a distortion module that includes a gate, a Filter module, a Compressor module and a Widen/Chorus module. The signal path order of these modules can be changed. Modulation comes from Disrupt Sphere, an Audio Follower with side-input, LFOs and an extended Mod Matrix. A Bank Manager helps organize presets and banks. The plugin runs in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats on Windows and macOS, in 64-bit.

Distortion Modules and Signal Path

The core of the plugin is a Distortion module with a gate and distortion types including FM, PM, ring modulation, two band ring modulation and side ring modulation. Dual Wave-Shaper and Two Band Wave-Shaper options are included, along with amplifier and cabinet simulators.

After distortion, the signal can pass through an analog-style Filter, a Compressor and a Widen/Chorus module. Path control lets you reorder the Distortion, Filter, Compressor and Widen/Chorus modules, and the GUI can be shown at 100%, 150% or 200% size.

Modulation Tools for Sound Design

Disrupt Sphere controls several modulation parameters at once. The Audio Follower with side-input can drive the Disrupt Sphere, so the incoming audio shapes the modulation. Modulation LFOs and an extended Mod Matrix provide further routing options.

The Bank Manager lets you organize presets and banks, which is useful when you build a library of distortion sounds.
