Sound Source and Recording Approach
IK recorded the Liberty Upright at its Modena, Italy studio using AKG 414 microphones for close miking and a coincident pair of DPA microphones to capture the back of the piano. The developer describes the original instrument as having a cast iron harp and a solid spruce soundboard.
Because the piano was sampled in two states, the relic recording reflects years of settling and soft damping, while the restored recording reflects a professional tuning. Both serve as sources for Pianoverse's effects and environments.
