Sound and Character of the Royal Upright Y5
The Royal Upright Y5 is based on deep multisampling of the Yamaha U5, a piano first introduced in 1967 and still in production. IK Multimedia recorded the instrument with close and medium-distance microphones, so the sound stays direct and intimate rather than large and reverberant.
The developer positions the instrument for jazz and pop singer-songwriter material, vocal accompaniment, and any setting where a concert grand would sound too overpowering. Advanced controls for lid position, harp resonance, and pedal and mallet noise let you adjust how much of the instrument's mechanical character comes through.
