Sound Source and Recording Approach
The NY Grand S274 is sampled from a Steinway & Sons New York D-274, a model the developer describes as the largest and most popular in the Steinway line. The recordings were made with an A-B microphone technique in a 15th-century convent that IK Multimedia says has hosted recording sessions for major Italian and international artists.
Robot-assisted sampling is used to capture the piano at a high level of consistency. Multiple instrument and room microphone options let you choose how close or distant the sound is, and lid position, harp resonance and pedal and hammer noise can be adjusted to suit the part.
Continuous pedal control supports half-pedaling and catch-pedaling, which matters most in slow, expressive piano writing.
