01Overview

MODO BASS 2 SE is built around a different approach to bass sound. Rather than triggering recorded samples, it recreates the physical behavior of an electric bass, with each string modeled as a resonator and the player's technique, fretting and pickup choices shaping the result. The package includes two models, a 60s P-Bass and a 70s P-Bass, and runs as a plug-in or standalone instrument on Windows and macOS.

Sound Generation and Playing Control

The instrument models the whole act of playing an electric bass, covering the player, the instrument, effects and amplifier. You can choose a playing style of pluck, slap or pick, and move the playing hand to vary the performance.

String force, fingers used, pick thickness and technique can all be adjusted. String count, scale, tuning, gauge, construction, action and age are also editable, so the instrument can be shaped well beyond a single fixed bass.

Because sound is synthesized in real time rather than stored as samples, the memory footprint stays small.

Pickups, Electronics and Signal Chain

MODO BASS 2 SE offers 24 interchangeable bass pickups with volume control, plus an under-bridge piezo pickup with blend. You can select active or passive electronics and shape the tone with parametric EQ.

The signal chain includes seven bass stomp box effects in a four-slot configuration, and two amp models, Solid State and Tube, derived from AmpliTube. FX and amp global bypass helps when experimenting with routing.

MIDI control includes MIDI learn and keyswitches, and the instrument supports full DAW automation.
