The Grand Piano Y7 is built from a Yamaha C7, the second-largest piano in Yamaha's Conservatory series. The instrument was captured with DPA cardioid and Coles ribbon microphones at Fonoprint Studios in Bologna, Italy. The package contains 27.6 GB of sound content and 25 instrument presets. Sound Character and Sampling Approach

IK Multimedia used robot-assisted sampling to capture the piano chromatically, including key and pedal noise. Round robin samples add variation between repeated notes, which the developer presents as a way to avoid a static, repeated sound.

The piano was recorded at Fonoprint Studios, and the mix combines close DPA cardioid microphones with Coles ribbon microphones in the Blumlein technique. The developer describes the result as a natural, detailed piano tone with a recording-studio character.
