Sound and Character of the Granny Piano Samples
The instrument was sampled with three to four velocity layers on every key, with added round-robin variation on the two middle octaves in the mf range. Each note has separate string and key release samples. The key release captures the soft, distant wooden thud heard when a key is lifted after the resonance has faded.
The pedal behavior is part of the sound. The piano's sustain mechanism was worn, so releasing the pedal too quickly could let the hammers strike the strings again. The library includes pedal sound effects that capture this quirk.
The library offers presets labeled Tuned and Tamed, Untuned and Raw, Bright and Chipper, and Soft and Muddy, so you can move between cleaner and more degraded tones.
