Sound and Character of the Reed Instruments
The library covers instruments that sit on the smaller side of the reed family. The Shruti Box is a traditional Indian instrument, similar in tone to the harmonium, and it suits drone parts. The mini accordion has 14 keys and 4 bass drones spanning about three octaves, with a warm tone and deep sub-bass octaves. The Plastisax has 13 keys across roughly two octaves and sounds like a harmonica crossed with a reed organ. Its concertina is sampled at multiple dynamic levels and articulations, and the set also includes a small paper squeeze box that has only two tones.
Soundiron sampled each instrument with attention to playability, and the developer says the sample sets feel fuller than these small instruments would suggest.
