01Overview

Little Epic Percussion is designed to complement Soundiron's existing epic drum collection, and it also works on its own as a toolbox of percussion instruments that are often overlooked. The library covers instruments such as tambourine, finger cymbals, concert triangle, ship's bell, wooden frogs, monkey drum and a Native American rabbit drum, along with mixed ensemble percussion. Soundiron say most of the instruments were recorded in the same epic hall and with the same techniques as its other percussion libraries, which the developer expects will blend well with them.

Sound Design and Playing Articulations

Soundiron recorded the instruments in depth and explored unconventional ways to play them. The library includes some unorthodox articulations along with combinations and mutations of sounds, which the developer hopes will encourage experimentation.

The instruments span clacks, cymbals, shakers, wooden and metallic strikes, and bells. Ensemble and single articulation mappings are both included, so you can choose between a full mixed percussion patch and individual instruments.

Kontakt Controls, Modulation and FX

The Kontakt interface includes automation-ready controls for swell, attack, release, offset, vibrato, filter, coarse and fine pitch, articulation switching, cross-fading and layering. An adaptable LFO offers selectable shapes, targets, speed, intensity, tempo sync and fade-in time.

An arpeggiator with velocity table, direction, timing, swing, randomization and duration controls is included, along with a key and scale lock. A modular FX rack provides 10 slots for 18 effect modules, and the convolution reverb uses 99 room, hall, chamber and outdoor impulse responses plus 40 custom FX impulses. The library also includes 20 sound-designed FX and ambient presets.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What do I need to use Little Epic Percussion?

You need the full retail version of Native Instruments Kontakt 5.5 or later. The free Kontakt Player does not fully support this open-format library and can only run it in a limited demo mode.

Which operating systems and formats does it support?

The library is listed for Windows and macOS and is delivered in Kontakt format. The developer lists Windows 7 or higher and Mac OS X 10.9 or higher.

Can I use the samples outside of Kontakt?

Yes. The sample directories are unlocked, so the WAV files can be used in other WAV-compatible software, samplers and synth formats.

How do I load the library in Kontakt?

The Libraries tab does not support this open-format library. Soundiron recommends using the File browser tab and importing the library into the Kontakt Quickload window.
