Iron Pack 3 - Metal Tones is part of Soundiron's Iron Pack series of compact virtual instrument libraries. It is built from recordings of resonant metal objects and surfaces, shaped into short and sustained patches. The library takes up 147 MB and includes 24 samples in uncompressed PCM WAV format. The final preset is a metallic drum kit assembled from Soundiron's Rust 3 metal library.

Sound Character and Instrument Types

The library covers two groups of sounds: tuned percussion and atmospheric instruments. Both short and sustained versions are included, so the same metal sources can work as rhythmic hits or as held textures.

Soundiron describes the patches as highly flexible and suited to many styles, from soundtrack scoring to experimental and atmospheric music. The Kontakt presets provide a range of sound shaping controls, and each one can be automated from your host or from Kontakt's stand-alone mode.

Formats, Presets and Setup

Iron Pack 3 ships with 14 Kontakt .nki instrument presets and 14 universal SFZ 2.0 instrument presets, plus the raw WAV samples. The .nki presets are designed for the full retail version of Native Instruments Kontakt 4.2.4 or later.

The free Kontakt Player does not support these open-format libraries. You can still load the samples through Kontakt's standard File browser and import the instruments into the Kontakt database and Quickload windows for browsing. Because the sample directories are fully accessible, the sounds can also be mapped into other WAV-compatible samplers and synths, and the SFZ presets can be loaded in any SFZ 2.0 compliant engine.
