01Overview

HX-20 is the debut release in UVI's HX Series. It is modeled on a well-known analog monosynth from the late 1970s, a compact instrument with two oscillators, a versatile filter section and a semi-modular design that can work with external inputs and larger systems. UVI builds the plugin on its background in hardware sampling and physical modeling, adding two layers of hardware-based wavetables and modeled filters alongside the sampled sound. The result is a synth aimed at producers who want analog character with more flexible sound design controls.

Hybrid Sound Engine and Oscillators

HX-20 gives you three sound layers to configure: two hardware-based wavetable oscillators and a sample-based oscillator. The wavetable layers are built from captured hardware, while the sample layer uses sounds that UVI designed in-house. Together they feed a pair of analog-modeled filters.

UVI says the sample-based oscillators let you explore the hardware across its full range, with more control over the raw instrument sound than earlier UVI instruments offered. The filters and oscillators combine to produce the analog character the plugin is built around.

Presets, Modulation and Arpeggiator

The plugin includes 222 presets across categories including Bass, Brass, FX, Keys, Leads, Pads, Pluck, Sequences and Arps. The presets are assembled from a library of more than 13,000 hardware samples arranged into 182 layers.

Each part has ADSR envelopes and several modulation points that are easy to configure. A built-in arpeggiator and phraser can create sequences, and a set of macro and studio effects is available for both broad sonic changes and fine shaping.
