01Overview

Filterscape is an effects plugin from u-he, first released in 2004 as the developer's first cross-platform, multi-format product. The current version, 1.5, centers on a morphing EQ that can move between 8 user-defined snapshots, each with its own band settings. Two multimode filters, a stereo delay and host-synchronized modulation sources round out the signal path. The plugin runs as a host-dependent effect, so it needs a DAW to operate.

Morphing EQ and Multimode Filters

The core of Filterscape is a 4-band parametric EQ with five modes, including the classic LS-Peak-Peak-HS layout and several multi-bandpass configurations. Each band can reach up to 24 dB of cut or boost. Snapshots let you move smoothly between up to 8 EQ settings, either by hand, in auto mode or through modulation sources, and you can automate them in your DAW.

The two filters are state-variable designs offering lowpass, bandpass, highpass and notch responses. A blender control fades between modes and can continue into an allpass response, which suits phasing effects. Version 1.5 adds nine analogue filter options with 2-pole, 3-pole and 4-pole slopes.

Modulation, Sequencing and Routing

Filterscape provides two host-synchronized LFOs with eight waveforms, two sequencers of up to 16 steps with a blend (glide) control, and four envelope followers. Modulation options are available for each EQ band, both at the snapshot level and globally.

Five routing options set how the delay, filter and EQ are arranged in the signal path. A stereo delay with independent times for each channel completes the effects chain, and two signal mixers take on roles that depend on the chosen routing.
