01Overview

Repro is a software synthesizer from developer u-he that models two analog-style instruments: the monophonic Repro-1 and the polyphonic Repro-5. The developer says it captures the original designs at the component level to reproduce their characteristic quirks. Repro-1 and Repro-5 sound and character

Repro-1 is a monophonic synth that u-he describes as hard working and raw sounding. It uses a 4-pole resonant lowpass filter, a glide control and two oscillator waveform sets that can be combined, along with pulse width modulation and oscillator sync options.

Repro-5 is the polyphonic companion, with 8-voice polyphony and 1 to 8 voice unison with glide. It adds audio-rate voice modulation through oscillator frequency and pulse width FM and filter FM, plus a polyphonic distortion unit with four types, including a bit crusher. Both instruments share the same analog-modeled core and a white noise generator.

Workflow, controls and effects

Repro-1 includes an arpeggiator with latch mode and a sequencer with two 32-step patterns, which can be chained to 64 steps. Modulation is handled by three sources controlling five destinations, plus two additional performance modulation assignments.

Each synth includes five effects: delay and chorus, EQ and resonator, reverb, and a sonic conditioner with dynamics processing. Repro-1 adds a wavefolder and distortion stage, while Repro-5 adds tape emulation. A Tweak screen lets you adjust component behavior, and the LFO can sync to the host tempo.
