01Overview

Supermodal is built around two filter sections that can be blended. The Classic Filter is a zero-feedback state-variable filter with a fixed 24dB-per-octave slope, while the Modal Filter is a bank of resonant bandpass filters that emphasizes harmonics across the spectrum. Its 27 modes range from musical to mangled, and its modulation section lets you shape filter movement over time. The plugin is available in 64-bit VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats.

Classic and Modal Filters Working Together

The Classic Filter morphs between lowpass, bandpass and highpass responses using its Type control. A built-in saturation stage and input and output drive controls let you push it toward a fuller, chunkier sound.

The Modal Filter sits alongside it in parallel. Its variants are grouped into nine filter models, and the Damping and Partials controls let you shape the tails and remove unwanted high or low frequencies. A Blend knob crossfades between the two sections, and a Dry/Wet slider keeps some of the original source character.

Modulation and Playability

Supermodal includes four modulation slots, each assignable to one of six sources: an envelope follower, ADSR envelope, MIDI/CV input, sequencer, random generator and a Meta Knob for macro control. Nearly any parameter can be modulated, and the modulation generators can modulate one another for more complex movement.

The Modal XY control lets you click and drag between filter models and variants, so you can morph the filter in real time. Polyverse describes this as playing the plugin like an instrument.
