01Overview

WOW 2 is built around a compact interface that puts the filter, modulation and distortion controls in one place. Its 21 filter types are designed to avoid aliasing, and all of them can be used in Vowel Mode, where the filter shapes the signal between nine human vowel sounds. The modulation section offers an envelope follower with frequency detection, a 13-waveform LFO, a 16-step sequencer and a Wobble control. Sugar Bytes says the plugin is suited to filter sweeps as well as more extreme modulated sounds.

Filter Types and Sound Character

WOW 2 includes 21 filter types, from a comb filter and a steep 8-pole lowpass to diode-style and other analog-modeled filters. Sugar Bytes says the filters are designed for high resolution and are free of aliasing.

The Vowel Filter lets you pick any two of nine vowels and sweep the cutoff between them for formant-shaping effects on a dry signal. Modulating the cutoff or the selected vowels can produce chorus and flanger-like effects. The developer recommends combining Comb or Bandpass filtering with high resonance for this mode.

Modulation and Distortion Workflow

The four modulation sources are an envelope follower with frequency detection, an LFO with 13 waveforms, a 16-step step sequencer and the Wobble knob. Targets and bipolar intensity are assigned in the circular elements at the bottom of the modulation section, or by right-clicking any parameter and choosing a source.

The distortion unit offers three overdrives and four digital functions, and can be placed before or after the filter section. Sugar Bytes uses fourfold oversampling to limit aliasing in the distortion stage. The developer also says output volume stays stable at high levels.
