01Overview

FAME Studio Reverb recreates the acoustic spaces of FAME Studios, the Muscle Shoals, Alabama facility that has operated for more than 60 years. The plugin covers nine spaces, including two live rooms, five isolation booths, an EMT plate and a restored echo chamber, each with Modern and Vintage modes. Because the spaces sit in one plugin, you can audition different rooms without loading separate reverb units.

Room, plate and chamber sounds in one plugin

The plugin combines the live rooms, isolation booths, an EMT plate reverb and FAME's restored echo chamber into one interface. Each space is available in Modern and Vintage modes, so you can move between a contemporary and a period-flavored sound without switching plugins.

For control, you get pre-delay, decay time, width and frequency controls, along with EQ and microphone options. Dry and wet level controls include solo buttons, which help when you are setting the balance between the source and the reverb tail.

Mic positions and console modeling

Selecting an instrument repositions both the microphones and the source within the modeled room, based on the setups used on FAME's recordings. Developer IK Multimedia says the new SPREAD control broadens or focuses each room's response, with BROAD suited to open sources such as drums, piano or vocals and FOCUSED aimed at guitar amps and brass.

Console preamp modeling adds the character of the studios' consoles, including a Neve 8232, an SSL 6056 E and FAME's original Universal Audio 610, to each space. The plugin uses IK's Volumetric Response Modeling (VRM) technology, which the developer describes as a hybrid convolution technique.
