The source of Evolve Air's sound is its quad-layer engine. Each of the four layers can house a sample-based instrument from 250 sources or a synth oscillator. You can also import your own samples to start a new patch or replace a source in an existing one.

Sampled sources offer play direction, tone and keytracking controls. Synth sources offer an oscillator shape slider and unison detuning. The XY Pad works in Sounds mode to blend the four sources, or in FX mode to modulate any available parameter. The dice buttons randomise a single layer or the whole plugin, including sources, parameters and effects.

Modulation is built into the instrument, with 12 sources. These include six envelopes with delay and hold, two LFOs with retriggering and offset, velocity and keytracking with adjustable curves, and the X and Y position of the XY Pad. A full modulation matrix lists every routing, and curve and polarity settings allow finer control.

Dual filters can be routed from each source and run in parallel or in series, with several filter curves, cutoff, resonance, drive and mix controls. Three rearrangeable effect slots each host one of 16 effects, including saturation, delay, reverb, phaser, speaker simulation and noise.
