01Overview

Bloom Drum Machine is built around a library of 112 drum samples and loops drawn from classic analog and digital drum machines and percussion sources. Its 14 keys are synced to the host tempo, so you can trigger one-shots and loops directly from a keyboard or MIDI controller. A built-in sequencer lets you layer samples and automate pitch, volume, filter and effect settings, and 250 presets give you a starting point for ideas.

Vintage Drum Sounds and Sample Sources

The samples come from a mix of sources: analog drum synthesizers from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, early digital rhythm units, percussive tones from electronic keyboards, and modern drum synthesizers. Excite Audio also created textured loops and one-shots through sound design. The developer says it recorded live drums through analog hardware and digital mixing to capture the tones of sample-based grooveboxes.

The library includes punchy analog-style drums as well as experimental textures and off-kilter loops, which gives you a range from straightforward kits to unusual rhythmic material.

Sequencer, Macros and Effects

Bloom's sequencer is designed for triggering and layering one-shots and loops rather than working like a traditional step sequencer. You can automate pitch, volume and filter settings, as well as three effects, to add movement to patterns. Step controls include rate, sync, swing, steps, latch and beat retrigger.

Four macros (Drive, ModDelay, Static and Lo-Fi) give quick control over the sound. The effects section offers Bitcrush, Dynamics and Reverb, with Reverb modes in Plate, Hall and Spring. Sample edit tools include playback direction, pitch, formant, choke groups and start and end markers with snap to transient.

Importing Your Own Samples

You can import up to 112 of your own samples by dragging audio files into the waveform view on the edit page or into an empty slot on the banks page. Imported samples can be swapped at any time. Set the key and BPM of your samples so they fit the Bloom engine, which keeps the instrument useful as a foundation for your own sound library.
