01Overview

Environments by AudioThing is a reverb plugin built on a convolution engine that combines multiple impulse responses, each with different characteristics. The spaces it captures are architectural locations chosen for their acoustics and history. The Room section lets you move through each captured environment and reshape its character, while two LFOs add motion and variation. A Gestures layer adds a further convolution stage built from sounds recorded on site with found objects and custom feedback devices.

Captured Spaces and Room Control

Each environment in Environments is based on a real location with its own sonic identity. The developer describes the spaces as architectural environments selected for exceptional acoustics, historical character and individuality.

The Room section offers two positions per environment, so you can move within a captured space rather than select a fixed impulse response. Three environments are included, and the Brightness and Contrast controls let you adjust the tonal balance of the result.

The Resizable Window makes the interface easier to work with on larger screens.

Gestures, Modulation and Presets

Gestures is an extra convolution layer placed before the environment processing. Instead of standard impulse responses, it uses sounds from resonant objects, actions and feedback-driven gestures recorded during the exploration of each place. The developer says the resulting sonic bands keep evolving, so the texture is never quite the same twice.

Two LFOs add ongoing movement to the reverb. A preset system with a randomizer gives you a starting point for new sounds and a way to explore unexpected results.
