01Overview

miniVerb takes its cue from the early days of video game audio, when consoles had little processing power and composers created a sense of space by sacrificing a sound chip channel to play a delayed copy of a sound. The plugin recreates that digital echo and reverb character, with the sound of the NES and SNES as clear reference points. Beyond the echo section, it adds a pre/post filter, vibrato and a crusher with bit-crushing, downsampling and pitch shifting, so you can push a sound from clean retro echo into lofi territory.

Echo Section and Retro Reverb Sounds

The Echo section is the core of miniVerb. For an NES-style reverb, the developer suggests a single delay line with a very short time, no feedback and the width set to mono. This recreates the slapback effect early consoles used to add depth.

For a sound closer to 90s SNES-style fake reverb, try longer delay times and add some feedback to build a reverb tail. For a more modern result, switch the Echo to double delay line mode using the blue button in the top-left corner, then widen the stereo width.

Filters, Vibrato and Crusher

A pre and post filter, each selectable as low-pass or high-pass, lets you shape the echo before or after it is processed. The vibrato adds pitch modulation to the sound.

The crusher combines bit-crushing, downsampling and pitch shifting, giving you control over the lofi and 8-bit character. The plugin also includes 45 presets and a preset randomizer to help you find starting points.
