Drums of St Paul is a Kontakt instrument from Soundiron that captures a three-piece drum kit in a large church sanctuary. The kick, snare and tom are sampled across three microphone positions, Close, Mid and Far, so you can blend between a dry, direct sound and a more open, room-driven tone. The library is aimed at cinematic arrangements, concert percussion, pop and rock drum tracks, and drum replacement or layering. A set of 20 sound-designed ambiences and pads adds tonal leads and background textures.

Drum Sound, Microphone Positions and Articulations

The kit was recorded in St. Paul's Church, and the three microphone positions let you choose how much room you hear. The kick includes high and low bass drum strikes, metal, rim and side clicks. The snare is sampled with snares on and off, rimshots and rim clicks. The tom includes high and low strikes and rim clicks.

Each articulation is built from up to 13 velocity layers and 16 round robin samples, which helps repeated hits sound less mechanical. Soundiron describes the result as a wide stereo image with a natural, open tone.

Controls, Arpeggiator and FX Rack for Kontakt

The Kontakt interface offers control over swell, attack, release, offset, vibrato, filter, coarse and fine pitch, articulation switching, cross-fading and layering. An LFO system provides selectable shape, target, speed, intensity, tempo sync and fade-in time.

The library also includes 12 lowpass, highpass and FX filters, a customizable arpeggiator with velocity table, direction, timing, swing and randomization, and a key and scale lock. A full FX rack with convolution reverb offers custom rooms, halls and chambers.
