01Overview

Disco 6000 is built from samples of the Solton Disco 64, an analog synthesizer and drum machine made in Germany between 1978 and 1982 in partnership with Ketron. The instrument's two SSM2040 filters, the same chips used in early Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 units, give its sound a fat analog tone. Soundiron recorded the articulations in stereo and direct line in, then added twenty atmospheric pads built from the source material. The developer positions it for early Italo disco and 1980s-style dance production.

Sound Character and Sample Content

The library contains five open-format Kontakt .nki instruments covering synth sustains, staccatos, percussion one-shots and drum loops in multiple tempos. Samples were recorded in a dry studio with a pair of Neumann TLM 103 large diaphragm microphones and direct line in.

The package totals 6.36 GB installed and includes 3,406 stereo samples at 24-bit/48kHz uncompressed PCM. Twenty sound-designed FX and ambient presets are included for pads and atmospheres.

Controls, Glide and Effects Rack

The interface offers volume, attack, release, transient offset, vibrato and octave layering. Setting the Glide slider above zero enables monophonic legato and portamento leads, while zero gives standard polyphonic playback.

An LFO system provides selectable shape, modulation target, speed, intensity, tempo sync and fade-in time. Thirteen lowpass, highpass and FX filters can be modulated by velocity, mod wheel, expression, aftertouch, key position or a step-sequencer table. A customizable arpeggiator adds a velocity table and control over direction, timing, swing, randomization and duration. A convolution reverb with 119 impulses and a multi-effects rack with EQ, phaser, flanger, delay, distortion and amp and speaker simulation complete the signal path.
