01Overview

Decimort 2 models the sampling path found in AD/DA converters and classic samplers, adding the grit and colour that early units gave to loops and basslines. Beyond vintage emulation, it works as a bit crusher with extreme settings for dramatic results. Version 2 adds control over the process, including adjustable jitter, two quantization methods and controllable dithering, along with analogue-like filters with adjustable resonance and cutoff.

Best for

  • Vintage sampler emulation
  • Hip-hop loop grit
  • Bass processing
  • Bit-crushed lead sounds
  • Lo-fi drum processing

Sampler Emulation and Sound Character

Decimort 2 is aimed at producers who want the colouration of classic samplers inside a DAW. D16 Group says the plugin recreates the encoding, lower sample rate and bit depth, and conversion behaviour that gave those units their character.

The plugin uses an ultra accurate resampling algorithm. According to the developer, it produces no harmonics above 22 kHz, so the only aliasing present is the emulated aliasing of the samplers it models. An approximative pre-filter and an image post-filter, both linked to the resampler, let you control aliasing above and below the resampling frequency.

Controls for Shaping Distortion

Beyond bit depth and sample rate, Decimort 2 offers adjustable jitter, which adds short, random fluctuations to the resampling frequency. Two quantization methods, mid-raiser and mid-tread, behave with clearly different dynamics. Controllable dithering lets you set how quantization errors are masked.

The analogue-like filters have adjustable resonance and cutoff and can smooth the sound or reduce artefacts introduced by the modelling. A tag-based preset browser, two GUI sizes and MIDI-learn throughout help with day-to-day use. Internal processing is 64-bit.
