01Overview

Bit Depth, Sample Rate and Aliasing Controls

The core of SampleX V3 is its A/D section. The bit depth control covers a range from 24 bits down to 4 bits, and the sample rate control runs from 96 kHz, matching a typical DAW rate, down to 2 kHz. You can double-click either LCD display to type in an exact value.

The Shift control handles aliasing. Vintage samplers produced their ringing, aliased tones by lowering the pitch of samples, and SampleX V3 reproduces that effect without changing the pitch of the sample itself. The drive section emulates the saturation that came from overloading the preamp before the converter, with the developer citing the S900 sampler as its reference.

The Width control moves the signal from mono through the original stereo field to an expanded mid/side space.

Analog Filter and Mix Options

The filter section models a vintage analog mono synth low-pass filter with a 24 dB/oct slope and resonance. At high resonance the filter reaches self-oscillation and produces a pitched tone, as the original hardware does. The cutoff covers 20 Hz to 20 kHz and resonance runs from 0 to 1.0. The red on/off switch toggles the filter.
