01Overview

Antresol is D16 Group's flanger, built around an emulation of the bucket brigade delay circuit used in a classic stompbox from the mid-1970s. The developer positions it for guitarists as well as synth and production work. Beyond the original's front-panel controls, it exposes deeper parameters, including the internal clocking behavior, and offers independent control for each stereo channel. It runs as a 64-bit plugin on Windows and macOS.

BBD emulation and sound character

D16 Group says Antresol's core is an emulation of an impulse-controlled, solid-state analogue delay line, known as a Bucket Brigade Device. The developer describes the sound as warm and highly musical, and says the emulation works in a quasi-analog signal representation rather than a purely deterministic digital algorithm.

The company also states that its frequency response comparison with the original Electric Mistress stompbox shows a close match, including at the upper end of the spectrum, where emulations often diverge. Output is described as ultra-low-aliasing.

Controls, stereo modes and LFO sync

Antresol offers the standard parameter knobs of the original unit along with deeper settings such as trimmer-level controls and the number of analogue memory cells in the BBD model. Mistress mode makes the whole unit behave like the classic flanger.

The LFO can sync to your host application's tempo and has adjustable phase and rate. Three different LFO-to-BBD clock curves are available. Stereo channels can be delinked, with selectable L/R or M/S processing modes, and MIDI learn works across the interface.

Who Antresol suits

Antresol is aimed at guitarists, instrumentalists and producers working in most genres. The developer frames it as suitable for rock guitar riffs as well as melodic synth lines. Its deep parameter access makes it a fit for sound designers who want to shape a flanger beyond the presets of a fixed unit.
