01Overview

DeBoom is an EQ plugin from Eventide built for one job: reducing low-frequency boominess without flattening the attack of kick drums, bass and similar sources. Eventide describes it as a one-knob tool that applies its patented Structural Split approach in a simplified form. Instead of notching out the low end and losing the thump, DeBoom separates the sound into transient and tonal layers and treats only the tonal layer. The plugin runs on Windows and macOS in several common plugin formats.

Structural Split Processing for Low-End Correction

Traditional equalizers often remove low-frequency resonance along with the body and punch of a sound. DeBoom takes a different route. Eventide says its Structural Split technology analyzes the incoming audio and separates it into transient elements, such as attacks, pops and plosives, and tonal elements, such as sustained notes and harmonics.

The EQ curves are applied only to the tonal layer, which is how DeBoom aims to remove boom while keeping the thud. Eventide notes that the same underlying technology appears in its SplitEQ and Physion plugins, and that DeBoom packages that approach into a single control.

One Knob for Repair, Reshaping and Enhancement

DeBoom uses a single dial to control its effect. Turning it reduces muddiness in the low frequencies. The interface also includes undo and redo, input gain and a built-in bypass, so you can compare the processed and unprocessed signal quickly.

Eventide positions the plugin for three tasks: repairing low-frequency problems in recorded audio, reshaping low frequencies in a mix, and tightening the low end to improve its balance.

What does DeBoom do?

Which formats and operating systems does DeBoom support?

DeBoom is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats. It runs on Windows 10 and later, including Windows 11, and on macOS 10.14 and later, with Intel and Apple Silicon supported. Both platforms require 64-bit hosts.

What do I need to use DeBoom?

You need a compatible host application that supports one of the listed plugin formats. Eventide says the plugin does not require an iLok dongle, but it does require a free iLok account for authorization.

Is there a trial version?
