01Overview

Comp FET-76 recreates the FET compressor sound associated with the original hardware design, using Arturia's TAE analogue modeling technology. Arturia describes the plugin as a tool for both dynamic control and adding tonal warmth, even at low compression levels. Sound and Character of the FET Compressor Plugin

Arturia says its engineers analyzed and modeled the electronic path of the original hardware, including the FET, transformers and transistors. The developer describes the result as a subtle tonal change that becomes more pronounced as you raise the input, use a higher ratio or enable the "All Buttons" British mode ratio.

The plugin includes ultra-fast attack and release parameters down to 20 microseconds, an analog clipping LED indicator and a switchable analog VU meter with three calibration modes. A dry/wet Mix knob supports parallel compression.

Workflow, Sidechain and Key Controls

The top panel provides the original controls, and an expandable advanced panel adds new functions. The input-output gain link switch keeps the output level steady while you increase the input. Sidechain options include an external source, five detection modes including mid/side processing, and an advanced sidechain EQ with SSL-style EQ.

The Time Warp function adds look-ahead or delay to the sidechain path, which can be used to shape where the compression envelope engages and releases. A compression range parameter limits the amount of gain reduction applied.
